Second round of proposals opens for race and ethnicity cluster hire
Schools and departments on the Danforth Campus are invited to submit a second round of proposals to hire faculty members whose research area focuses on race and ethnicity, the Office of the Provost announced. The deadline is May 1.

Thurtene to host virtual art showcase, benefit to support Tent Mission STL
The student-run Thurtene Carnival has been canceled for a second year due to COVID-19. Instead, Thurtene, the junior honorary, will host a virtual art showcase and benefit. Proceeds will support Tent Mission STL. Artwork submissions are due April 16.
Big Ideas program seeks applications
The Big Ideas 2021-2022 competition is open. The program provides opportunities for collaborative teams to develop innovations in informatics and health-care delivery The deadline to submit a letter of intent is March 29.
Volunteers sought for Commencement events
Washington University in St. Louis will be holding multiple Commencement ceremonies on May 20, 21 and 30 and seeks staff volunteers to help them run smoothly. The university will take safety precautions and follow government guidelines to ensure safety for volunteers, graduates and guests.
University Libraries seeks entries for student research awards
University Libraries announced a new research award designed to engage students’ research with collections from the Julian Edison Department of Special Collections. Apply for the Mendel Sato Research Award by May 7.
Professors Emeriti meeting set March 8
The university Society of Professors Emeriti will hold its regular monthly meeting via Zoom at 12:30 p.m. Monday, March. 8. Susan Frehlich Appleton, at the School of Law, will speak on “Families Under Construction: Parentage, Adoption and Assisted Reproduction.”
Plans moving forward for in-person Commencement
Washington University is moving forward with in-person Commencement ceremonies on the Danforth Campus in May for members of the classes of 2020 and 2021 and a limited number of guests.
Join the Green Cup competition in March
The Green Cup is an annual competition to reduce energy use, and typically is focused on Washington University’s residential colleges. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition is virtual and is open to faculty, staff and students. It will run March 1-31.
Flags lowered in memory of Americans who died of COVID-19
The U.S. and university flags over Brookings Hall are lowered to half-staff until sunset Friday, Feb. 26, in memory of the more than 500,000 Americans who have died of COVID-19 during the pandemic.
