Class of 2018 selection is underway

Washington University expects to have more than 29,000 applications for the class that will enter in August and admitted more than 630 students in the early decision round (a little more than 35 percent of the expected freshman class). While the total number of applications received is down slightly this year, the Admissions Office reports another strong and talented group of applicants.

Campus blood drive coming up

The next university-wide blood drive will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, at seven locations throughout WUSTL. All students, staff and faculty members are encouraged to participate in this effort to replenish the region’s blood supply, which has been especially hard-hit due to the recent wintry weather.

Trademark licensing fairs to be held Feb. 6, 14

Washington University in St. Louis’ Office of Brand Management will hold its annual trademark licensing fairs next month. The first fair will be 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Medical Campus; the second fair will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, in the Charles F. Knight Center on the Danforth Campus.

Faculty Achievement Award nominations sought

Nominations are being accepted for Washington University in St. Louis’ annual Faculty Achievement Awards, known as the Arthur Holly Compton Faculty Achievement Award and the Carl and Gerty Cori Faculty Achievement Award.

Snow day: Some of WUSTL had a long weekend due to winter storm

Most WUSTL campuses had a rare snow day Monday after the St. Louis region got blasted with major snowfall during the weekend, followed by bitterly cold temperatures. The School of Medicine remained open, and certain other “essential” services, such as police and facilities management, were operating. Crews were still hard at work Tuesday to clear the snow from walkways and elsewhere around campus.

Robert and Barbara Frick commit $5 million to new facilities for Washington University’s Olin Business School

Robert (BS ’60, MBA ’62) and Barbara Frick have made a $5 million commitment to support the Washington University Olin Business School’s new building expansion, a $90 million project for two connected buildings – the Knight and Bauer halls – that will add 175,000 square feet and span five levels. The buildings will be dedicated May 2.
