Henry Schvey is a steadfast presence in the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, having directed more than 25 plays in his nearly 30-year tenure, in addition to teaching and writing. Now, a new memoir is adding to his body of work in the place he calls home.

More than 300 Washington University in St. Louis degree candidates will take part in the December Recognition Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Graham Chapel.

Washington University in St. Louis is stepping up its efforts to stop sexual assault — expanding both prevention programs and crisis services and launching a new research initiative to develop and test solutions. The results could change how universities nationwide tackle sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and harassment.

Washington University Dance Theatre will present “Critical Mass,” its 2016 concert, Dec. 2-4 in Edison Theatre. The annual event will feature dozens of dancers, selected by audition, performing new and original choreography by seven faculty and visiting artists.

Three School of Medicine faculty members are among 391 new fellows selected by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society. Azad Bonni, Phyllis I. Hanson and Gary D. Stormo will receive the highest honor awarded by AAAS.

Lori Setton, a renowned researcher into the role of the degeneration and repair of the body’s soft tissues, has been named the Lucy and Stanley Lopata Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.

Shimon Attie, who has earned an international reputation for exploring themes of place, memory and communal trauma, will serve as the 2016-17 Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow. The fellowship, which is jointly organized by the Saint Louis Art Museum and Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, consists of two monthlong residencies, during which recipients lead studios in the Sam Fox School while preparing an exhibition for the museum’s Currents series.

International experts on flooding, drought, extreme heat, land change and more will gather for a symposium on climate change on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.

Charles B. Anderson, MD, a former professor and director of the Division of General Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died of congestive heart failure Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his daughters. He was 78.
