A multi-institutional team led by an engineer at Washington University seeks to refine a method that would remove selenium from wastewater efficiently and cost effectively, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Rebekah Paré has been appointed associate vice chancellor for career development and education at Washington University in St. Louis, effective Aug. 15, announced Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. She joins WashU from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Nine local teachers have been selected by Washington University in St. Louis faculty for the Summer Teacher-Researcher Partnership, an innovative initiative from the Institute for School Partnership. Peng Bai, Aravind Nagulu and Ning Zhang, all assistant professors at the McKelvey School of Engineering, have been awarded $25,000 Collaboration Initiation Grants from the school.

Alex Meshik, research professor of physics and a faculty fellow in the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences in Arts & Sciences, won a $690,521 NASA grant.

Gerald Early, the Merle King Professor of Modern Letters in Arts & Sciences, will serve as interim director of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity at Washington University in St. Louis, effective July 1. Hedwig Lee and William Acree, both in Arts & Sciences, are stepping down as co-directors.
