In celebration of another year of change and discovery at Washington University in St. Louis, the Source shares some of its most-read stories of 2019.

Kent Theiling, the university’s grounds and landscape design manager, calls the east end project the most rewarding of his 40-plus-year career. On Oct. 31, he will introduce the campus community to the east end’s 250 trees, 3,000 shrubs and 50,000 perennials.

Parking & Transportation Services at Washington University in St. Louis is reminding the campus community of the latest changes to Metro bus routes; parking during high-volume events such as Parents and Family Weekend; and vehicle storage options in advance of the holidays. 

The new exhibit “Momentum: Bridging Past, Present, and Future,” showcases the faculty, staff and students who served St. Louis, led the way for educational access and equality and were committed to academic excellence. The exhibit is on view from Saturday, Sept. 28, until Dec. 15 and is located in John M. Olin Library’s Kagan Grand Staircase lobby.

Washington University in St. Louis is proud to welcome media on Thursday, Sept. 26 for an insider look at the new East End Transformation. The 2-year $360 million campus expansion adds three new academic buildings; two new multi-use facilities; an expansion of the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum; and an underground parking garage topped by an expansive new park.

Kristina Anderson, a survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, will be the featured speaker for Ready Week, which will take place Sept. 16-20 and is organized by the Washington University in St. Louis Emergency Management Department. Ready Week will emphasize the importance of tuning in, learning more, looking around and taking action through interactive events and presentations.

Welcome to Cortex, an innovation community started in 2002 thanks to a lead investment from Washington University. Drone footage takes you through the formerly blighted industrial complex that is now a hip mixed-use space and home to more than 5,800 jobs. This is Cortex.

In an effort to support the safety of the Washington University in St. Louis community, electric scooters, motorized skateboards and hoverboards will no longer be permitted on Danforth Campus sidewalks and pathways. Also, university employees are prohibited from using scooters or other motorized transportation devices during work hours while conducting university business.
