The American College of Physicians has recognized three faculty members at the School of Medicine with national awards honoring excellence and distinguished contributions to internal medicine.

Alexander Hatoum, a research assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences in Arts & Sciences, won a five-year $897,120 award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)’s National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

A University Marketing & Communications team won a 2022 Regional Emmy Award Oct. 29, and received two additional nominations, from the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Lindsay Stark, a professor at the Brown School, has received a one-year $435,000 grant from UNICEF for a project titled “Intervention Review and Implementation Research to Address Gender-based Violence in Emergencies.”

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded researchers Ellen Fitzsimmons-Craft and Denise Wilfley a grant to help improve outcomes for eating disorders in adolescent girls.

Ranen Miao, a senior studying political science and sociology in Arts & Sciences, was elected to serve as national director of communications for the College Democrats of America.

Gary Grajales-Reyes, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of pathology and immunology at the School of Medicine, has received an Early Independence Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

John F. DiPersio, MD, PhD, the Virginia E. and Sam J. Golman Endowed Professor of Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine, is being recognized by the American Italian Cancer Foundation with the 2022 Prize for Scientific Excellence in Medicine.

Nominations for the 20th annual Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award are now open. The award recognizes people who exemplify a character of service and engagement with the St. Louis region. Nominations are due Nov. 20.

Sterling Blake Martin, a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences, has been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the university’s Center of Regenerative Medicine, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
