Nominations are now open to honor deserving staff members through Washington University’s Distinguished Honor Awards. The nomination deadline is March 15.

Guy Genin, the Harold and Kathleen Faught Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering, has been awarded the Savio L-Y. Woo Translational Biomechanics Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Ross Brownson, the Steven H. and Susan U. Lipstein Distinguished Professor at the Brown School, has been named the recipient of the Society for Public Health Education 2024 Honorary Fellow Award.

Gregory J. Zipfel, MD, head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the School of Medicine, has been awarded the Ralph G. Dacey Jr., MD, Medal for Outstanding Cerebrovascular Research.

Jennie H. Kwon, DO, an associate professor of medicine in infectious diseases, and Jason G. Newland, MD, a professor of pediatrics, both at the School of Medicine, have been selected to serve on the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria.

Three WashU researchers developing promising therapeutics for cancer and heart disease are the inaugural awardees of the Needleman Program for Innovation and Commercialization. The next round of project proposals is now open.

Members of the Greenwood Cemetery Preservation Association will receive the annual Rosa L. Parks Award during the university’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Graham Chapel. 

Todd A. Fehniger, MD, PhD, and colleagues Alice Y. Zhou, MD, PhD, Ryan C. Fields, MD, and George Ansstas, MD, all at the School of Medicine, have received $1.5 million from the Rising Tide Foundation for Cancer Research and the Melanoma Research Alliance.

Gary Weil, MD, a professor of medicine and of molecular microbiology at the School of Medicine, received the 2023 Kyelem Prize at the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases’ annual meeting.

Nia Hodges, a second-year master’s student studying data analytics and statistics at the McKelvey School of Engineering, recently won a Diversity Fellowship Award from the Taylor Geospatial Institute, a collaboration that aims to advance geospatial technology.
