Arts & Sciences recognizes faculty for excellence in teaching and service
At the Arts & Sciences faculty welcome reception held Sept. 10 in Holmes Lounge, Dean Barbara A. Schaal presented the annual Arts & Sciences faculty awards for excellence in teaching and service. Awards were presented to Elizabeth Borgwardt, Stan Braude, Adrienne Davis, Steve Fazzari and Lerone Martin.
Chen wins Taiwan studies grant
Lingchei Letty Chen, associate professor of East Asian languages and cultures in Arts & Sciences, has received a three-year, $195,000 grant from the Taiwan Ministry of Education.
General counsel’s office honored by Legal Services of Eastern Missouri
The university’s Office of the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel is this year’s recipient of the Gerald R. Ortbals Law Practice Award from Legal Services of Eastern Missouri. The office and other honorees will be recognized during an awards luncheon Aug. 16.
G’Sell nominated for Rabkin Foundation Award
Eileen G’Sell, senior lecturer in writing and in the Prison Education Project, both in Arts & Sciences, was a finalist in the 2019 Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation grant program for visual art journalists.
Sue and Jerry Schlichter receive Harris Award
To honor their support of the St. Louis community, Sue and Jerry Schlichter are the 2019 recipients of the Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award. Each year, a married couple is selected to receive this award.
Marshall, Stormo to receive 2019 faculty achievement awards
Washington University professors Fiona Marshall, Gary Stormo and Yoram Rudy will receive 2019 awards for faculty achievement, innovation and entrepreneurship, Chancellor Andrew D. Martin has announced.
Brounk receives Gloria W. White Distinguished Service Award
Thomas Brounk, director of mental health services at Habif Health & Wellness Center, received the Gloria W. White Distinguished Service Award at the annual Washington University in St. Louis Staff Day celebration May 20 in the Field House. Brounk was praised as a tireless advocacy on behalf of students and responsiveness, flexibility and guidance during a crisis.
Academy of Science-St. Louis honors faculty
The Academy of Science-St. Louis recently honored Washington University Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton for his leadership in science and three researchers at the School of Medicine — Susan K. Dutcher, Anne M. Fagan and Samantha A. Morris — for their work as outstanding scientists.
Sociologist Collins named 2019 Malkiel Scholar
Caitlyn Collins, assistant professor of sociology in Arts & Sciences, is one of 10 junior faculty nationwide selected as a 2019 Nancy Weiss Malkiel Scholar by The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
Fogarty receives 2019 Grossman-Alexander Prize
Michael Fogarty, who graduated in May with a dual degree in political science and in economics, both in Arts & Sciences, has received the university’s Grossman-Alexander Prize.
