Multidisciplinary artist, experimental filmmaker and writer Crystal Z Campbell has been named the Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts for the 2023-24 academic year. 

The Washington University Danforth Staff Council has added 12 new members and elected its executive officers for the academic year.

The Career Center has a new name and a new leader. Effective Sept. 20, Norma Guerra Gaier will lead the new WashU Center for Career Engagement. Gaier currently is executive director of Texas Career Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin.

The Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees has elected five new trustees to four-year terms, which took effect July 1.

Derek E. Byers, MD, PhD, has been named executive chair of the university’s Institutional Review Board, which reviews and approves protocols for research studies that involve human subjects. He begins the new role Tuesday, Aug. 1.

The Board of Trustees gave approval June 13, between regular meetings, to appointments or promotions of several faculty members.

Yongseok Shin, an expert on macroeconomics and economic growth, was installed as the inaugural Douglass C. North Distinguished Professor in Economics at Washington University in St. Louis during a recent ceremony.

Limor Golan, an expert in labor economics in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, was installed as the inaugural Laurence H. Meyer Professor at a ceremony in Holmes Lounge in March.

Srikanth Singamaneni, an internationally renowned materials scientist, has been named the Lilyan and E. Lisle Hughes Professor in the McKelvey School of Engineering.

Quing Zhu, a renowned biomedical engineer who has developed advanced imaging techniques to diagnose cancers of the reproductive system and in other areas, has been named the Edwin H. Murty Professor of Engineering in the McKelvey School of Engineering.
