Janet S. Lee, MD, a highly regarded physician-scientist in pulmonary and critical care medicine, has been chosen to lead the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the School of Medicine. Her appointment is effective Jan. 3.

Erik Herzog, a professor of biology, was installed as the Viktor Hamburger Distinguished Professor in Arts & Sciences. His talk was titled “For Whom the Bells Toll: Networked Circadian Clocks and Clock Watchers.”

The Washington University Danforth Staff Council has elected its executive officers for the academic year and added five new members.

Dallas-based artist Tamara Johnson will serve as the Sam Fox School’s next Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow. Designed to promote the creation and exhibition of contemporary art, the appointment is sponsored in collaboration with the Saint Louis Art Museum, which will present a solo exhibition of Johnson’s work in fall 2023.

Nancy K. Sweitzer, MD, PhD, a professor of medicine, has been named vice chair of clinical research for the Department of Medicine and director of clinical research for the Cardiovascular Division at Washington University School of Medicine.
