The 16th annual African Film Festival returns to Washington University in St. Louis on March 25-27. The free event features eight short and full-length films.

​​Patrick Grindel, a senior studying mechanical engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering and a cadet in the ROTC Gateway Battalion, has been recognized by the U.S. Army Cadet Command as a Distinguished Military Graduate, ranking fourth in a nationwide field of 6,000 cadets.

About 50 high school students from across the St. Louis region gathered online Feb. 27 to test their knowledge of the brain and to learn about neuroscience research and careers at the St. Louis Area Brain Bee, an annual event hosted by Washington University. 

Sean Spinks, former director of academic success at Harris-Stowe State University, has been appointed director of the Danforth Scholars program at Washington University, according to Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. Spinks, who began Feb. 1, is the program’s first full-time director.

The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity (CRE2) is accepting applications for two funding opportunities. Applications must be submitted by April 1.

The Washington University men’s and women’s track and field teams both won the University Athletic Association Indoor Championship Feb. 27 in Cleveland. 

Fans of Bears men’s basketball are encouraging more people to join them at the Field House to cheer on the team. The play is exciting and the players — including Justin Hardy, who is fighting Stage 4 stomach cancer — are inspiring. The Bears close the regular season Saturday, Feb. 26.
