Twelve recent alumni of Washington University in St. Louis earned Fulbright awards to travel abroad to conduct research or teach English. The program recognizes talented scholars and leaders who are committed to promoting global collaboration and understanding through research and teaching.

The principals at seven local schools are poised to achieve big goals after participating in the SLPS Principal Redesign Fellowship, a bold new partnership between St. Louis Public Schools and the Institute for School Partnership at Washington University in St. Louis. 

Rebekah Paré has been appointed associate vice chancellor for career development and education at Washington University in St. Louis, effective Aug. 15, announced Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. She joins WashU from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Nine local teachers have been selected by Washington University in St. Louis faculty for the Summer Teacher-Researcher Partnership, an innovative initiative from the Institute for School Partnership. The teachers will work in university labs, where they will participate in faculty research and develop lessons for their classrooms.

Stan Sweeney has been named executive director of campus life at Washington University following a national search, according to Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs. Sweeney formerly worked at Youngstown State University in Ohio.

More graduates, more room, more fun, more food, more joy, all added up to a glorious send-off for Washington University in St. Louis’ Class of 2022.

Sheryl Mauricio, associate dean for student conduct and community standards, has been promoted to associate vice chancellor for student affairs, announced Anna Gonzalez, vice chancellor for student affairs.

Washington University in St. Louis has joined SlaveVoyages, a collaborative digital initiative that compiles records related to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. William Acree, co-director of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity (CRE²), says membership provides university faculty and students an opportunity to both benefit from and contribute to SlaveVoyages’ critical scholarship.

In memory of recent graduate and basketball star Justin Hardy, an anonymous donor has made a pledge of $500,000 to endow the Justin Hardy Courage Fund at Washington University in St. Louis. To encourage support for the fund, the donor has committed another $500,000 to match tribute gifts made by others. 

The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity (CRE²) has announced the three winners of its inaugural St. Louis High School Student Paper Awards.
