The Africa Initiative at Washington University in St. Louis recently awarded three pilot grants of $10,000 each to research projects that will help advance health and human development in Africa.

Training, and retaining, tech talent is essential to St. Louis’ continued economic growth. A new partnership between Washington University in St. Louis and the nonprofit organization LaunchCode makes the transition from apprentice to full-time employee at the university easier for LaunchCode graduates.

A new fellowship for Washington University undergraduates further deepens the university’s commitment to educating and preparing the next generation of entrepreneurs. The program, offered by the Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship, will directly connect students to, and immerse them in, the St. Louis startup scene.

The process of truly connecting with others — no matter their differences — can be challenging, even difficult at times. Columnist and filmmaker Aisha Sultan will explore the theme of embracing others during her upcoming keynote for the university’s annual Day of Dialogue & Action on Feb. 18.

The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals announced the  WashU Women Innovate (WIN) storytelling campaign won a Gold MarCom award. Created by Washington University in St. Louis’ Office of Public Affairs, WIN shines the spotlight on the university’s support of women founders, entrepreneurs and innovators.

A recently inked agreement between Washington University in St. Louis and Mekelle University in Ethiopia will encourage future collaborations in education, scholarship and research between the two universities.

Washington University in St. Louis is committed to supporting faculty, students and staff wherever they are on their entrepreneurial journey — and is especially invested in supporting women bringing their ideas and discoveries from the lab to the marketplace. A terrific example of that commitment begins in St. Louis next year, with Equalize 2020.

Several Washington University centers, programs and institutes are currently offering research funding opportunities — including seed funding — for faculty engaged in international collaborative research. Several have deadlines in November.

The McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis recently welcomed the first cohort of students funded by a prestigious new grant from the China Scholarship Council. The three-year renewable program will enable up to six doctoral students per year to pursue research on projects in the areas of life sciences, energy and informatics involving collaborations between Washington University’s McKelvey School of Engineering and Xi’an Jiaotong University.

The newly launched Social Policy Institute and the McDonnell International Scholars Academy are seeking proposals for collaboration between Washington University researchers and researchers at international partner universities.
