COVID-19 survivors are needed to donate blood plasma. Infectious diseases physicians at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have developed an expanded access program to give blood plasma from COVID-19 survivors to critically ill patients.

Chancellor Andrew D. Martin will deliver the keynote address at Washington University in St. Louis’ Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in Graham Chapel.

Brown School researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have begun work on a five-year, $3.9 million study that tests an innovative approach to help low-income smokers quit: helping people establish rules banning smoking inside their homes.

Kristina Anderson, a survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, will be the featured speaker for Ready Week, which will take place Sept. 16-20 and is organized by the Washington University in St. Louis Emergency Management Department. Ready Week will emphasize the importance of tuning in, learning more, looking around and taking action through interactive events and presentations.

The university’s Office of the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel is this year’s recipient of the Gerald R. Ortbals Law Practice Award from Legal Services of Eastern Missouri. The office and other honorees will be recognized during an awards luncheon Aug. 16.

To honor their support of the St. Louis community, Sue and Jerry Schlichter are the 2019 recipients of the Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award. Each year, a married couple is selected to receive this award.

At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting May 3, several faculty members were appointed or promoted with tenure, with most effective July 1.

A variety of distinguished speakers, faculty members and student leaders will take part in Commencement-related events for Class of 2019 graduates and their families and guests next week at Washington University in St. Louis.

Denise DeCou brings her own lived experiences to the table as the university’s manager of diversity and community outreach. Through training and learning opportunities, she encourages the campus community to grow in acceptance of one another.

The William Greenleaf Eliot Society held its 52nd annual dinner April 18 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in honor of Washington University’s group of committed supporters. Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton also presented the Search Award to Life Trustee Andrew C. Taylor.
