Frederick Sweet, PhD, professor of reproductive biology in obstetrics and gynecology, has been awarded a Fulbright grant to conduct research in Bosnia-Herzegovina during 2010-2011.
Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Sweet will be a visiting professor at the University of Sarajevo and the University of Tuzla. Sweet will research how physicians in these two cities became involved in genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the early 1990s. A number of these doctors have been convicted of their crimes.
Sweet’s research at both universities will be in collaboration with Lejla Panjeta, PhD, a Bosnian media scholar and filmmaker.
