​Arpita Bose, professor of biology in Arts & Sciences at WashU, studies microbial metabolisms and their influence on biogeochemical cycling using an interdisciplinary approach. She and members of her research group are working to engineer microbial systems for sustainable biochemical and bioenergy production. Bose seeks new ways of addressing pollution, biofouling and sustainability.

Bose is a Fulbright U.S. Scholar, Packard Foundation fellow, Climatebase fellow and an Anant Fellow for Climate Action. She serves on the board of trustees for the Society of Applied Microbiology, the oldest microbiology society of the United Kingdom, and is an editor for several microbiology focused scientific journals.
