School of Medicine scientists are working to minimize the risk of another devastating coronavirus pandemic by designing a vaccine that reduces sickness and death caused by all potentially deadly coronaviruses, including ones that have not yet affected people. The research is supported by an $8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Daniel C. Link, MD, a highly regarded physician-scientist who treats patients with leukemia and also conducts innovative research, has been named director of the Division of Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the School of Medicine.

Planetary scientists Paul Byrne and Rebecca Hahn in Arts & Sciences have created the first comprehensive map of volcanoes on Venus, pinpointing 85,000 of them. Their study was posted online in JGR Planets, and the dataset is publicly available.

Washington University has once again been recognized as a “Voter-Friendly Campus” by the Campus Vote Project and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). The nation’s 258 Voter-Friendly Campuses boast comprehensive voter engagement, education and turnout plans.

Mónica Rivera has been named the JoAnne Stolaroff Cotsen Professor of Architecture at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. A lecture and reception to celebrate her appointment were held recently in Steinberg Hall.
