Steven Frankel, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics in Arts & Sciences, received a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation for his project “Universal Circles Between Dynamics and Geometry.”

Anna Gonzalez, vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Harvey Mudd College, has been appointed vice chancellor for student affairs at Washington University, effective July 1, according to Chancellor Andrew D. Martin.

Researchers at the School of Medicine have received three grants totaling more than $10 million to study the factors that contribute to deterioration in driving skills in older adults and to determine ways to identify people whose driving skills have begun to decline or are on the verge of slipping.

The student-run Thurtene Carnival has been canceled for a second year due to COVID-19. Instead, Thurtene, the junior honorary, will host a virtual art showcase and benefit. Proceeds will support Tent Mission STL. Artwork submissions are due April 16.

John Hendrix, professor and chair of the Master of Fine Arts in Illustration & Visual Culture program at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has been named Educator of the Year by 3×3, The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration.

Michael Wysession, professor of earth and planetary sciences in Arts & Sciences, was recently named the winner of the 2021 Geosciences in the Media Award of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The honor recognizes Wysession’s many achievements in promoting geoscience literacy and education.
