It has been a busy few years.
Since arriving at Washington University in St. Louis in 2014, composer Chris Stark, assistant professor of music in Arts & Sciences, has completed new works for the Los Angeles Piano Quartet, Chamber Project St. Louis and other local and national ensembles. Last fall, he was among 10 American composers to win a prestigious residency at Aaron Copland’s former home in New York’s Lower Hudson Valley.
At 7:30 p.m. May 5, the renowned Momenta Quartet will present the world premiere of Stark’s latest composition, “Winter Music,” in the university’s E. Desmond Lee Concert Hall. The performance comes as part of the Department of Music’s inaugural Harold Blumenfeld Event, named in honor of Stark’s late predecessor.
In this video, Stark discusses composing, the future of electronic music and the inspiration behind some of his works.
