Rohit Pappu, PhD, the Edwin H. Murty Professor of Engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis, will help spearhead the newly formed Human Dark Proteome Initiative, launched Nov. 9 by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Scripps Research Institute.
The term “dark proteome” refers to proteins in an organism that don’t adopt 3-D structures. Pappu and the group will research these intrinsically disordered proteins in an effort to better understand their roles in catastrophic diseases, such as cancer, and develop potential cures.
Additional information about the Human Dark Proteome Initiative and its work can be found on the St. Jude website.
