The world is always falling apart. And artists have long been interested in the melancholy symbolism of ruin and decay. But in recent years, such themes have acquired particular urgency as global environmental issues increasingly become matters of both scientific and public concern.

On Saturday, Feb. 8, students from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will present “Ruin & Renewal” at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Organized by RARA (Residential Area Real Art), the juried, all-media exhibition will include works by both undergraduate and graduate students that, together, seek to balance the forces of creation and destruction.
The one-night-only exhibition is free and open to the public and runs from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The Contemporary Art Museum is located at 3750 Washington Blvd. Shuttle buses will circulate between Brookings Hall and the museum beginning at 7:30 p.m.
