The Gephardt Institute for Public Service and the American Constitution Society at the School of Law will commemorate Constitution Day — the annual commemoration of the Sept. 17, 1787, signing of the U.S. Constitution — with a panel discussion on “The First Amendment in the 21st Century.”
The event will be held from 12-1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge.
Panelists are:
- Denise Lieberman, JD, attorney and civil rights activist;
- Neil Richards, JD, professor of law at Washington University in St. Louis; and
- Mark Sableman, JD, attorney at Thompson Coburn, board member for the ACLU and author of More Speech, Not Less: Communications Law in the Information Age.
The panel discussion will focus on:
- expression on the Internet;
- recent court rulings on gay students participating in Christian student groups and the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy;
- terrorism, security and privacy issues;
- saggy pants laws; and
- cursing and the FCC.
