Panel considers the future prospects of the Democratic Party
At a panel discussion for the Assembly Series to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, five individuals will try to assess “The Future of the Democratic Party.” The program, which is co-sponsored by the College Democrats at Washington University, is free and open to the public.
Campus name to honor Danforths
In recognition of the role that William H. (Bill) Danforth, life trustee and chancellor emeritus, his family and the Danforth Foundation have played in the evolution of Washington University in St. Louis, the Hilltop Campus will be renamed the Danforth Campus, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. An official recognition ceremony will be held Sept. 17, when the new name takes effect.

In 1992, Mae Jemison climbed aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour and became the first woman of color to go into space. On Wed., Oct. 26, she will deliver the Black Arts & Sciences Festival lecture for the Assembly Series at 11 a.m. in Graham Chapel.

He will discuss these compellingly human stories of crime and violence for the Assembly Series on Wednesday, September 21 at 11 a.m. in Graham Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

LaRussaThe Washington University Assembly Series will have an unorthodox start to its fall schedule with a talk by Cardinals’ manager, Tony La Russa at 11 a.m. Sept. 7 in Graham Chapel. The rest of the series features speakers on a wide range of topics including politics, economics, writing, history, religion, medicine, literature, evolution, space exploration, social justice and the Holocaust.
Harris Community Award honors Lees for dedication to improving St. Louis region
For the sixth year, a husband and wife couple were recognized for their extraordinary service to the St. Louis region with the Jane and Whitney Harris St. Louis Community Service Award. This year, the honor was bestowed upon Mary Ann and E. Desmond “Des” Lee, who as individuals and as a couple have been great citizens of St. Louis and have given back to their community in a host of ways.
Universitys service award honors seven, changes name
Seven members of the University community were presented with the 2005 Virgil Ethic of Service Award. This award recognizes a select group of individuals affiliated with Washington University who exemplify a character of service and giving to the St. Louis region. Created last year as part of the University’s commemoration of its sesquicentennial anniversary, the award was initially named the Sesquicentennial Ethic of Service Award. This year, the award was renamed to acknowledge the generous support of Geraldine J. and Robert L. Virgil and to recognize the couple’s service to others.

The Commission on Presidential Debates’ deadline for credentialing for the October 8 debate has expired. The Commission will no longer be credentialing media for the debate in the Athletic Complex.
