Teach for America

Some 30 Washington University in St. Louis graduates joined Teach for America this year. They are serving high-need students in urban and rural classrooms across America. Teach for America reports that WUSTL consistently has ranked high among mid-sized colleges and universities that contribute students. This year, WUSTL is No. 12.

Language is a key that opens doors to other cultures and adventures at home and abroad for Spanish and Latin American studies major Grace Van Voorhis, one of the Record‘s 2010 Outstanding Graduates in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach for America, will talk about the need to correct disparities in America’s public school system for the Assembly Series at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 8 in Graham Chapel. The program is free and open to the public.

Teach For America (TFA) is partnering with the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis to offer its corps members and alumni added incentives when applying to the Master of Social Work Program. Janice Wells-White, assistant director of admissions at the School of Social Work, says that it is the school’s goal to recruit strong analytical leaders committed to making a difference. “We are confident that Teach For America corps members and alumni possess the characteristics we seek and our new admissions incentives reflect our commitment to attract Teach For America’s best and brightest.”
