Children from the WUSTL Family Learning Center on North Campus donned caps and gowns to celebrate their graduation from preschool at a Commencement held at the center May 23. Their next adventure: kindergarten!

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration that focuses on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes the childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The Family Learning Center building has received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Family Learning Center building, designed by Ross Barney Architects, features energy-efficient equipment and lighting; lighting controls; a thermally efficient building envelope; regional, recycled and rapidly renewable materials; and native and adapted planting.

Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton holds a paper chain as a tricycle parade “cuts the ribbon” for the new WUSTL Family Learning Center during the center’s grand opening ceremony Oct. 27. The Family Learning Center, which opened in early September, serves children of faculty, staff and students.

WUSTL’s new child-care facility — the Washington University Family Learning Center — will open Tuesday, Sept. 7. The 19,900-square-foot center is located on North Campus and offers care for 156 children from the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years. The center serves the children of faculty, staff and students.

Ann Bingham has been named director of the WUSTL Family Learning Center, an on-campus 19,900-square-foot child-care center scheduled to open Sept. 7.
