$12 million gift from alumnus and trustee to transform Athletic Complex
Washington University alumnus and trustee Gary Sumers has have committed $12 million to help expand and modernize the Athletic Complex at Washington University in St. Louis and create the Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center. The gift was announced at the celebration of the launch of Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University. Construction of the new addition and renovations are expected to be completed in 2015.

The football team opens its 116th season of college football Friday, Aug. 31, at home against No. 1-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. at Francis Field.
WUSTL Athletics announces fall, winter live webcast schedule
WUSTL is set to stream 62 live athletic events through Stretch Internet during the fall and winter seasons, starting with football, volleyball and soccer events next week. Stretch Internet is the official web-streaming provider for the university’s Department of Athletics. Live webcasting will kick off Friday, Aug. 31, with the No. 2-ranked volleyball team hosting Fontbonne University at 5 p.m. and the No. 9-ranked women’s soccer team taking on Alma College at 5 p.m.
Sports update July 2012: Richter drafted by Harlem Globetrotters
Former Bears basketball player Dylan Richter was selected by the Harlem Globetrotters in their sixth annual player draft, while senior Elizabeth Phillips was named 2012 Capital One Academic All-America of the Year Division III award winner for women’s track & field/cross country.
