Washington University Athletics has reached its first apparel deal in department history, signing an agreement with Nike and BSN Sports.

The Washington University athletics program has many fans, but none bigger than Mark Wrighton.

Women’s basketball head coach Randi Henderson and her husband, assistant coach Duez Henderson, are leading the No. 19-ranked Bears into their 30th consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. The Bears will play Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Athletic Complex. The couple’s small children are the team’s biggest fans.

Being the Washington University Bear mascot is hard work, especially on a Division III campus where sports take second place to studying. But three new bears will be making their debut this season, including exchange student Priyanka Deodhar. “Being a mascot is the most American thing I can think of,” said Deodhar, who arrived this semester from France. The mascot will perform at the Bears football game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

Anthony J. Azama has been named the John M. Schael Director of Athletics at Washington University in St. Louis. Azama arrives on the Danforth Campus after spending the past two years as senior associate athletics director for external operations at Columbia University in New York.

On Dec. 3, 2016, the women’s soccer team posted a 5–4 shootout victory over Messiah College to claim the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship. ­

The ninth-ranked women’s basketball team was selected to host the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship first and second rounds Friday and Saturday, March 4-5, at the Field House. The Bears will face Greenville College at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
