The Sam Fox School will present WashU’s 96th Annual Fashion Design Show April 26 in Holmes Lounge. One of the oldest such shows in the nation, the event will feature dozens of models wearing scores of outfits that together explore avant-garde looks, user-centered design and cross-cultural connections.

Graduate students studying human-computer interaction begin courses this fall — with help from prominent alumni.

Carmon Colangelo, the Ralph J. Nagel Dean of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, will conclude his deanship effective June 30, 2026. Colangelo will continue to serve as WashU’s E. Desmond Lee Professor for Collaboration in the Arts. He will return to teaching, after a yearlong sabbatical, in fall 2027.

Illustrator Carson Ellis, sculptor Beatriz Cortez and architect Rahul Mehrotra are among the internationally renowned creative professionals who will discuss their work for the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts spring Public Lecture Series.

Jerome J. Sincoff, a former dean of architecture in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, died in hospice Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024. He was 91. 

Sam Fox, a business and civic leader who was also among St. Louis’ most prominent philanthropists and WashU’s most loyal and generous alumni, died Dec. 2, surrounded by friends and family. He was 95.

The College Writing Program recently celebrated the 2024 winners and finalists of the James E. McLeod First-Year Writing Prize.

In February, the Kemper Art Museum will present “Seeds: Containers of a World to Come.” The exhibition features recent works and new commissions by 10 nationally and internationally known artists for whom the seed is the kernel, both literally and metaphorically, for their investigations.

Monika Weiss, a professor of art at WashU’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, was trained in piano but then branched into visual art and beyond. Her works encompass many formats and senses. She recently installed “Metamorphosis (Sound Sculpture),” at St. Louis’ Laumeier Sculpture Park.

Several WashU faculty members contributed to the St. Louis Reparations Commission report, which outlined recommendations for city officials to repair the harm caused by racial injustice.
