Leaders from two of the world’s top research universities and several major international corporations will gather in St. Louis Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20, for the Washington University in St. Louis-Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Corporate Conclave, aimed at strengthening the U.S.-India connection around innovation and education, particularly in addressing pressing global issues.

Construction is moving quickly on the two new Olin Business School buildings — Knight Hall and Bauer Hall, located next to the Knight Center on the Danforth Campus of Washington University in St. Louis. The $90 million project includes two innovative buildings united by a soaring three-story glass atrium.

The annual Leaders in Business Summit, held Sept. 25 at Knight Center, featured several panel discussions with prominent local business leaders and Olin Business School faculty members about the evolving global economy and where it might be headed.

The 43rd executive MBA class was at the Knight Center in mid-September to kick off their academic year with Go! Week. This was the first time the cohort of students from the new Denver EMBA program was in St. Louis. Go! Week included a special celebration of the 30th anniversary of Olin’s Executive MBA program.

Andrew Brimer and Abigail Cohen, May graduates from the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Washington University in St. Louis and co-founders of the med-tech startup Sparo Labs, have won the $150,000 CIMIT Student Technology Prize for Primary Care, bringing their total competition winnings to more than $275,000.

Chinese search engine conglomerate Baidu Inc. leads the pack in a new ranking of the 50 most innovative companies in the world. The RQ50 ranking is based on the research quotient (RQ), developed by Anne Marie Knott, PhD, professor of strategy at Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School.

For many firms, losing significant revenue and profit to employee theft has been a cost of doing business. But a new study from Washington University in St. Louis finds that information technology monitoring is strikingly effective in reducing theft and fraud, especially in the restaurant industry.

Faculty and graduate students from St. Louis-area universities with an interest in labor, households, health care, law and social welfare are invited to take part in the continuing series of Monday brown-bag luncheon seminars held biweekly on the Danforth Campus beginning Monday, Sept. 9, and running through Dec. 2. All lectures take place at noon in Seigle Hall, Room 348. The series begins with a lecture by Derek Neal, PhD, professor in economics at the University of Chicago titled “Designing Accountability Systems and Incentives Schemes for Educators.”
