Renewable energy subsidies have been a politically popular program during the past decade. These subsidies have led to explosive growth in wind power installations across the United States, especially in the Midwest and Texas. But do these subsidies work? Not as well as one might think, finds a new study from Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School.

Robert (BS ’60, MBA ’62) and Barbara Frick have made a $5 million commitment to support the Washington University Olin Business School’s new building expansion, a $90 million project for two connected buildings – the Knight and Bauer halls – that will add 175,000 square feet and span five levels. The buildings will be dedicated May 2.

The Friday, Dec. 6, meeting of the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees focused on the challenges and opportunities for the School of Medicine, according to Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. The board also elected a new trustee, WUSTL alumnus Richard P. Mattione, PhD (pictured).

“Christmas Creep,” the “technical” term for the pre-holiday appearance of retail decorations and promotions, crept into stores and marketing in October this year. A team of Olin Business School graduate students recently won the $5,000 first prize in the 18th annual International Case Competition organized by Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business. In addition, the team of four MBA students and one master’s in supply chain management student tied with MIT for the “Best Presentation” Award.

David A. Winters, a first-year professional master’s in business administration student at Olin Business School, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, following a vehicle collision on Interstate 44 near Sullivan. He was 34.

A partnership between Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School and the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel, will give undergraduates from any American college or university a firsthand look this summer at the burgeoning Israeli startup scene. Students have until Feb. 15 to sign up.

Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School and School of Engineering & Applied Science have announced a partnership with the startup-focused news organization Techli to promote the growing entrepreneurship community in and around St. Louis.
