Program prepares employees for high-demand, high-paying nursing jobs
The pre-nursing program at University College gives School of Medicine employees and other working adults the academic foundation to enter a bachelor’s of nursing program. The program is flexible, feasible and for most university employees, free.
‘A story to tell’
Since launching in 2014, the WashU Prison Education Project has offered dozens of courses to incarcerated students at the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center, a men’s prison located in Pacific, Mo. Last fall, the project expanded to a second facility, the Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia, Mo.

Kris Campa is the first graduate of the John B. Ervin Scholars Program to lead it. He mentors students in his capacity as Ervin director and while teaching creative writing in University College.
University College receives state workforce development grant
University College at Washington University in St. Louis received $860,000 from the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development to help prepare and credential workers for high-demand, high-wage jobs.
‘This program changes people’
The Washington University Prison Education Project held its 2022 commencement ceremony May 25 at the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center in Pacific, Mo. Fourteen students earned associate in arts degrees and four earned bachelor’s in integrated studies degrees.
Armstrong named dean of University College
Asquith S. “Sean” Armstrong, executive director for continuing education at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, has been named dean of University College at Washington University in St. Louis, effective Nov. 1.
Doctorate program in University College being phased out
Washington University is ending its Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) program in University College, administrators announced this week. The university has been reimagining University College with an eye to shifting its focus to serve the St. Louis region and provide continuing education.

Obituary: Miles Meyer, adjunct instructor in University College, 69
Miles W. Meyer, an adjunct instructor in University College at Washington University in St. Louis, died Feb. 7 in St. Louis. He was 69. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton and from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at St. Lucas United Church of Christ in Sunset Hills.
