With awareness ever increasing about young adults with autism transitioning into the workforce, a 2012 study by Washington University in St. Louis researcher Paul Shattuck continues to get national recognition. Shattuck’s June 2012 study “Postsecondary Education and Employment Among Youth With an Autism Spectrum Disorder” was one of 20 selected for inclusion in the 2012 IACC Summary of Advances in Autism Spectrum Disorder Research.

With springtime temperatures and warm weather approaching, the inclination to spend time outdoors is a strong one – especially for children who have been cooped up all winter. But parents should be vigilant about sunscreen. And teenage girls might want to rethink springtime tanning and tanning beds. A new study out of the Brown School, led by senior author Kimberly J. Johnson, looks at the increase of melanoma in children and adolescents and what those trends might be telling us.

Michael Sherraden, PhD, the Benjamin E. Youngdahl Professor of Social Development at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, moderated a panel discussion April 6 at the sixth annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U). The session was titled “Poverty and Promise in America’s Rust Belt” and was held in Umrath Hall on the Danforth Campus. Kailey Burger, third-year law student, served as a panelist.

International development economist John W. McArthur, will speak on the Washington University in St. Louis campus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in Brown Hall Lounge on the Danforth Campus. McArthur will appear on behalf of the Brown School’s Policy Forum. The event is free and open to the public. ​

As part of its Clinton Global Initiative University efforts, Washington University in St. Louis has announced a major institutional commitment to action around the important issue of sustainability.

About 200 WUSTL students have committed to accomplishing far-reaching projects, and they will showcase their plans at the annual Faces of Hope event on Wednesday, March 27. The event is hosted by the Gephardt Institute for Public Service and this year is focused on student commitments as part of this year’s Clinton Global Initiative University, which will hold its annual meeting on campus in April.​
