‘The Date’ provides resources, provokes questions

This past weekend, all new undergraduate students at Washington University in St. Louis attended “The Date” and a post-performance conversation about sexual assault. Part of new student orientation for 16 years, the play is written, produced and performed by students. 

Reminder: SafeTrek safety app available for free to university community

Members of the Washington University in St. Louis community are encouraged to download the free personal safety app SafeTrek. The university is providing the service, essentially a mobile “blue light,” for free to students, faculty, staff and basic service contractor employees.

Academic year again to open with ‘reflections’ event

To mark the beginning of the 2017-18 academic year, the Washington University in St. Louis community will come together Wednesday, Aug. 30, for “Reflections: Unity, Social Justice & Peace,” a universitywide gathering to celebrate our shared, core values and to reflect upon recent world events.

Mallon wins American Philosophical Association award

Ron Mallon, professor of philosophy and chair of the Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology program in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has won the 2017 Joseph B. Gittler Award from the American Philosophical Association.

Mindy Fullilove on community ‘root shock’

How does environment impact mental health? And how does stress affect one’s emotional ecosystem? On Sept. 14, the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will launch its fall Public Lecture Series with a free talk by psychiatrist and urban policy expert Mindy Fullilove. In all, the series will feature 11 presentations by nationally known artists, architects, curators and designers.

For the Sake of All receives $1.1 million grant

For the Sake of All, a Washington University in St. Louis-based initiative working to improve health equity for African-Americans in the St. Louis region, has received a $1.1 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to work within St. Louis Public Schools and the Normandy Schools Collaborative.
