Scientists at the School of Medicine in St. Louis and the biotech firm Nimblegen Systems Inc. have successfully tested a technique for identifying newly recognized DNA variations that may influence disease risk.
Rather than focus on errors and alterations in DNA sequence, the new technique highlights variations in the number of copies of a particular gene.

All three artists are featured in the new exhibition, Reality Bites: Making Avant-garde Art in Post-Wall Germany, which opens later that evening. Also taking part will be three contemporary scholars and critics: Diedrich Diederichsen, Sabine Eckmann and Lutz Koepnick.

Sponsored by the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the competition sought to generate innovative and unexpected ideas for the Gateway Mall downtown. Projects would serve as “visual anchors” for the area while helping to guide public movement along the Mall to the Gateway Arch.
Washington University’s Sports Hall of Fame Class now boasts a 10th member in the Class of 2006—Director of Athletics, John Schael. Surrounded by many friends and family, including Schael’s wife, Linda, and daughter, Erin, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton made the surprise announcement near the end of the 12th Hall of Fame ceremony held on the Danforth Campus on Friday morning.

Jan. 25 3:23 p.m. — Maintenance workers reported subjects playing cricket in the Rebstock Hall dock area had broken a window on the east side of the building. The subjects were contacted and identified. Maintenance cleaned up the glass and boarded the window. Damage to be paid for by involved parties.
