Students are invited show what youth are thinking in this election season by entering the Make it Clear multimedia competition, a collaboration between the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper and the Vice Presidential Debate Programming Committee.
With the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate quickly approaching, many people are looking for ways to get more involved in the political process. To help facilitate interest and participation in the debate and election, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service is coordinating an all-day, campus-wide voter registration drive on Thursday, Sept. 18.
With an increased emphasis on service this election year, the Community Service Office will once again be sponsoring four University-wide blood drives during the academic year. The first drive will be held Sept. 16.
The Washington University Assembly Series will open its fall 2008 season with political satirist Mo Rocca, whose mix of clever insights and silly opinions puts the fun in “fundit.” The event will be on Wednesday, September 10 at 4 p.m. in Graham Chapel. Seating will be limited for the public; doors open at 3:15 p.m.

Now that the U.S. government has taken the controls of distressed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, American taxpayers facing billions of dollars in losses in home loans issued by the private sector are left wondering, “What does this mean for me?”
The Take a Stand Rally, encouraging students to be advocates for social change, was held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Danforth University Center courtyard. More than 20 student groups involved in election issues, politics and voting will presented and discussed what they do.
