The CNN election bus parked in front of Brookings Hall.CNN’s Election Express Yourself, the network’s customized Airstream trailer designed to give Americans across the nation an interactive political experience, will be entertaining VP debate crowds from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 2 at a location along the courtyard outside WUSTL’s new Danforth University Center. The trailer offers a high-tech array of touch-screen polling stations, iReport video kiosks, “shout out” video broadcasts, political trivia games and personalized election memorabilia.
In the weeks leading up to the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis, hundreds of people rolled up their sleeves to accommodate both candidates and perhaps the biggest swarm of media to ever descend on the University campus. Here are some fun facts and numbers that indicate the magnitude of the event.
Beginning Sept. 30, anyone entering the debate security zone will be required to display a credential authorized by the Commission on Presidential Debates and the U.S. Secret Service. These CPD/Secret Service (USSS) credentials will be available for pick-up on a daily basis beginning at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Media Welcome Center on the third floor of the Laboratory Sciences Building. Young, Black and Ready to Vote, a panel discussion co-sponsored by WUSTL’s Association of Black Students, will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission in University City.
The Red vs. Blue post-debate event will be held at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in Graham Chapel. Sponsored by Congress of the South 40 and Student Union, the event will focus on debate reaction by two political opinion-makers – Jonah Goldberg, syndicated columnist and author, and Peter Beinart, journalist and editor-at-large for The New Republic.
