Marilyn Krukowski, PhD, professor emerita of biology, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, in St. Louis from complications of multiple sclerosis. She was 80. Krukowski taught vertebrate structure (anatomy) in the Department of Biology for more than 30 years. Her students raved about the quality of her teaching and often cited the course as the best they ever had taken at Washington University.

Mechanics from Big Shark Bicycles will provide free bike tune-ups for students, faculty and staff today on the Medical Campus and tomorrow on the Danforth Campus. The tune-ups are part of Car-free Month at WUSTL.

The WUSTL men’s and women’s swimming teams are set to host their annual swim lessons on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning Tuesday, April 9, at the Millstone Pool. The deadline to sign up for lessons is Monday, April 8.

“The anthropological concept of culture is extremely important and often misunderstood because many of the things that are assumed to be biologically determined, like criminality or homosexuality or IQ, are really behaviorally and societally defined,” says WUSTL physical anthropologist Robert W. The Faces of Hope rally got the WUSTL campus ready for the Clinton Global Initiative University. At the rally,the community watched a video message from Chelsea Clinton and learned that WUSTL is committing $30 million to improve energy efficiency and other sustainability efforts on campus.

President Bill Clinton announced the launch of the third annual Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) Commitments Challenge, a competition of ideas from college students in the form of a bracket. The KHE Project, a commitment to action by WUSTL Arts & Sciences students Emily Santos, Krupa Desai and Henry Osman, is part of the “Sweet 16” projects selected to compete.
