Geltman receives first Philip Ludbrook award

Edward Geltman, MD, professor of medicine, has been named the first recipient of the Philip A. Ludbrook Award. The award will be given annually to a member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for outstanding service and dedication to the protection of human subjects involved in research.

Otha Overholt, alum, longtime WUSTL employee, 71

Otha L. Overholt, 71, who worked at Washington University for nearly 37 years, died at her home in Kirkwood, Mo., on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012. Overholt began as a technical specialist in the Office of Computing and Communications in 1971 and retired in 2008 as associate director of Computing and Communications.

Social Change Grant showcase to be held Dec. 5

A showcase featuring three student projects selected by the Community Service Office to receive Social Change grants last summer will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Danforth University Center, Room 234.

Every year, Siteman Cancer Center hosts a gathering for former bone marrow transplant patients, their families and the staff who helped care for them. It’s a celebration of survival. And every year, John F. DiPersio, MD, PhD, chief of the Division of Oncology, looks out over the audience and marvels. From the lab to the clinic, DiPersio’s work is guided by his commitment to his patients. ​​

Nominations sought for Civic Scholars Program; info sessions Nov. 27, 29

The Gephardt Institute for Public Service is accepting nominations for the Civic Scholars Program, which recognizes undergraduate students who exemplify future potential for civic leadership. Information sessions for interested students are scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, and 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Gephardt Institute for Public Service in Danforth University Center, Room 340.

Geography Awareness Week Nov. 12-16

Nov. 12-16 is Geography Awareness Week at WUSTL. The Geographic Information Systems office at WUSTL is sponsoring a number of sessions highlighting resources available through the university. Attendees can learn how to organize, analyze and present spatial information.
