Women’s Society hosts panel on postgrad life for women Oct. 29
The Women’s Society of Washington University is hosting a panel discussion and networking event, “Composing a Life,” that will feature five diverse women sharing their insights about life after college. The event will be from 5:45-8 p.m. Oct. 29 in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall.
URSA grants awarded to six teams
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) has announced the six winners of the 2013 University Research Strategic Alliance (URSA) grants. URSA grants provide one-year, $25,000 seed funding to full-time WUSTL faculty members. The URSA program aims to encourage researchers to collaborate across disciplines and schools.
Gephardt Institute’s Civic Engagement Fund seeks applicants
The Gephardt Institute for Public Service invites students, faculty and staff to apply for the Civic Engagement Fund. The fund provides support for civic engagement, community service, and community-based teaching and learning projects throughout the year. Students, faculty and staff can apply for up to $500 grants. The deadline for the next funding round is Oct. 4.
Burnham receives young investigator award
Carey-Ann Burnham, PhD, assistant professor of pathology and immunology and of pediatrics, has been awarded the American Society for Microbiology/Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Young Investigator Award.
Kemper Art Museum receives federal IMLS grant to support conservation survey
The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis has received a $36,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant will support a detailed conservation study of the 337 paintings in the museum’s permanent collection.
Parking lot closing Sept. 27
The surface parking lot on the Medical Center campus at the corner of Taylor and Parkview avenues (C-lot) will close permanently at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
Faculty, staff invited to community engagement reception
The STL PREP (Perception, Reality, Engagement and Partnership) orientation series will launch with a welcome reception on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 5-7 p.m. at the Moonrise Hotel Rooftop, 6177 Delmar Blvd. Interested faculty and staff are welcome to bring up to two guests. Brown School student one of eight nationally selected for EPA’s TRI Challenge
The Brown School’s Rebecca Gernes has been chosen as the only student among eight academic partners selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the 2013-14 school year. Gernes, a native of Des Moines, Ia., is studying the relationship between air pollution and asthma in East St. Louis, Ill., and its surrounding areas – including the city of St. Louis.
Olin Library expands overnight hours
Following a successful trial run during the 2012-2013 academic year, Olin Library has expanded 24-hour access to five nights a week. Olin Library is now open from 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings to 8 p.m. on Friday evenings when fall and spring semester classes are in session.
Applications sought for K12 Career Development program
Applications for the K12 Clinical Hematology Research Career Development Program scholars are being accepted through Oct. 21.
