Pérez honored for excellence in teaching

Julio E. Pérez, MD, professor of medicine, has received multiple honors this year for excellence in teaching. The American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis each have recognized Pérez as a gifted educator and mentor in the field of cardiology.

Fisher nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

2013 WUSTL graduate and volleyball player Marilee Fisher has made the initital list of contenders for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the NCAA recently announced. Fisher, who majored in chemistry, in Arts & Sciences, is one of 455 student-athletes across all NCAA divisions and sports vying for the award.

Rao named fellow of national statistical society

Dabeeru C. Rao, PhD, director of the Division of Biostatistics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation’s preeminent professional statistical society.

Demolition preparation under way at Medical Campus

Although there will be no exterior construction fences or lane closures yet, later this month all floors of the Kingshighway, Steinberg and Yalem buildings will be vacant and considered a construction zone. Access to the buildings will be restricted to authorized personnel and contractors. Work taking place over the next several months is in preparation for demolition of those buildings, which will begin in late summer.

Whispers Café closes for renovations

Whispers Café will be closed to users and foot traffic through Aug. 1, so that a number of renovations can take place. When the café reopens for the start of the fall semester, students, faculty, and staff can expect a fresh look, with new menu boards and merchandise cases, a stronger system for moving people through the line quickly during peak hours, and a counter that allows for easier interaction between patrons and servers.
