Moon receives National Science Foundation CAREER Award

Scientists often use things in nature as a model to make new things, such as using birds as models for airplanes. One WUSTL engineer is using a basic cell as a model to make genetically engineered bacteria that would produce biofuel or pharmaceuticals. Tae Seok Moon, PhD, has received a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development Award from the National Science Foundation for his project, “Engineering Biological Robustness through Synthetic Control.”

Tinianow to receive 2014 Stalker Award

Alex Tinianow will receive this year’s Harrison D. Stalker Award from the Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. The award is given annually to a graduating biology major whose undergraduate career combines outstanding scientific scholarship with significant contributions in the arts and humanities.

Washington People: Andrew J. White

Andrew J. White, MD, the Philip R. Dodge, MD, Scholar in Pediatrics, took an unorthodox, even explosive, route to medicine. As director of the Pediatric Residency Program, his breadth of knowledge, exuberance and quick wit help him recruit, train and inspire future pediatricians.

April is Car-free Month

Employees and students are encouraged to try different forms of alternative transportation to campus during Car-free Month. Events include free bike tune-ups, a self-guided Metro scavenger hunt to the South Grand neighborhood and the  inaugural Bikes in Bowles Block Party

Brown School honors distinguished alumni

The Brown School bestowed one Distinguished Faculty Award and five Distinguished Alumni Awards during its annual alumni awards celebration dinner March 26 at the Palladium Saint Louis. Among the five, two alumni were selected as outstanding Graduates of the Last Decade.

Boyle ramp to close through mid-May

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close the ramp from westbound Interstate 64/Highway 40 to Boyle Avenue in St. Louis at 9 a.m. Monday, April 7. The ramp is expected to reopen by mid-May.
