A book by Lerone Martin, PhD, assistant professor of religion and politics in the Danforth Center on Religion and Politics, has won a Certificate of Merit in the 2015 Association for Recorded Sound Collections Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research in Blues, Gospel or R&B.

Nancy Morrow-Howell, PhD, the Bettie Bofinger Brown Distinguished Professor of Social Policy at the Brown School and director of the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging in the Institute for Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis, is the new president of the Gerontological Society of America, the nation’s largest multidisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging.

Timothy Lohman, PhD, the Brennecke Professor of Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, was named a 2015 Biophysical Society Fellow.

Larry J. Shapiro, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, will host the annual Dean’s Update for all School of Medicine employees Nov. 12 and 13.

​David M. Becker, JD, Joseph H. Zumbalen Professor of the Law of Property Emeritus, will be honored during a ceremony Nov. 14 with a $25,000 tribute from the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award Trust for motivating a former student to make a difference in his or her community.​

Andrew Flachs, a sociocultural anthropology graduate student in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been awarded the Political Ecology Society Eric Wolf Prize for the best article-length paper based in substantive field research that makes an innovative contribution to political ecology.

Mike Dyer, supervisor of the greenhouse on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, has the job many of us probably wish we had —  but only because we think he spends the day pottering around watering plants. Instead, his job requires everything from the mechanical and engineering skills needed to suppress the greenhouse’s voracious appetite for energy; extensive knowledge of insects; and the ability to grow any plant he is handed under the conditions specified. It’s not exactly relaxing, but he enjoys it that way.

The National Digital Stewardship Alliance has awarded “Documenting Ferguson,” an initiative of Washington University Libraries,​ a 2015 Innovation Award​.
