Now that most roadwork at Washington University Medical Center has been completed, the shuttle buses have been rerouted and renamed to accommodate employees. The new routes will begin Nov. 30. The buses now will be identified with a name instead of by a color.

Douglass C. North, PhD, co-recipient of the 1993 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and the Spencer T. Olin Professor Emeritus in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at his summer home in Benzonia, Mich. He was 95.

Adjunct faculty members at Washington University in St. Louis and the Student Worker Alliance are holding a food drive Nov. 13 to benefit the Gateway 180 shelter and the St. Patrick Center. Canned goods and fruits and vegetables that will keep, such as apples and potatoes, are welcome, along with personal care items. Donations may be dropped off in the Brookings Hall archway between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13.

A partnership between the Brookings Institution and Olin Business School, BEE recently was approved for extended VA benefits. That now allows veterans to use GI Bill funding to pursue a Certificate of Public Leadership, Certificate of Policy Strategy or a Congressional Fellowship.

Teach For America recently released its annual list of schools contributing the greatest number of alumni to its 2015 teaching corps. Among medium-sized universities, Washington University in St. Louis is again among the top contributors.

Angela L. Brown, MD, associate professor of medicine, leads the Hypertension Clinic at Washington University School of Medicine. Brown has devoted her career to helping patients control their hypertension and to training medical professionals in how to care for such patients.

Jay F. Piccirillo, MD, of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named editor-in-chief of JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, one of 10 specialty journals in The Journal of the American Medical Association’s (JAMA) network of publications.

Stuart Weiss, MD, a beloved, longtime professor of clinical neurology at Washington University School of Medicine, died Oct. 27, 2015, in St. Louis. He was 85.
