Provost Holden Thorp has appointed a nine-member committee to identify candidates for the position of dean of the Olin Business School, Olin Dean Mahendra R. Gupta announced this month that he will conclude his deanship at the end of the academic year, June 30, 2016.

The Gerry and Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award recognizes members of the university community who exemplify service and contribution to the St. Louis region. Honorees include alumni, employees, students and volunteers. The nomination deadline is Feb. 5.

Mark Rank has received the 2016 Society for Social Work and Research Book Award for his book “Chasing the American Dream: Understanding What Shapes Our Fortunes.”

Washington University Libraries received $150,000 from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to digitize and reassemble the unaired interview outtakes from the seminal series “Eyes on the Prize.”

At the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees meeting Dec. 4, the following faculty members were appointed with tenure, granted tenure or promoted with tenure, effective Dec. 4, 2015, unless otherwise indicated.

Nominations are being accepted for the annual Faculty Achievement Awards, known as the Arthur Holly Compton Faculty Achievement Award and the Carl and Gerty Cori Faculty Achievement Award. The nomination deadline is Feb. 12.

A memorial service to honor Nobel Prize-winning economist Douglass C. North, PhD, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, in Graham Chapel. A reception will follow in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall. North died in November.

The Skandalaris Center is continuing its partnership with Boeing’s Phantom Works Ventures. Students have an opportunity to commercialize Boeing patents in non-aerospace applications. Information sessions are scheduled today, Jan. 22 and 25.
