Phillips wins PEN poetry award
Carl Phillips, professor of English in Arts & Sciences, has won the 2016 poetry award from PEN Center USA for “Reconnaissance,” his latest collection.
Erlin wins DAAD/GSA book prize
Matt Erlin, professor and chair of Germanic languages and literatures in Arts & Sciences, has won the 2016 prize for best book in “Germanistik,” or cultural studies, from the German Academic Exchange Service.

Dains memorial scheduled Oct. 30
A memorial to celebrate the life of Stephanie Brooks Dains will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, in Graham Chapel. Dains, a 1969 alumna and major supporter of the university, died in New York in June.

Rudy delivers lectures at University of Oxford
Yoram Rudy, the Fred Saigh Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, was a Royal Academy of Engineering distinguished visiting fellow and fellow of Merton College at the University of Oxford from Sept. 1 to Oct. 15.
Freeland named Ronald G. Bohley Award recipient
Chris Freeland, associate university librarian at Washington University, is one of this year’s recipients of the Ronald G. Bohley Award.
Semenkovich honored by American Diabetes Association
Clay F. Semenkovich, the Irene E. and Michael M. Karl Professor and director of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Lipid Research at the School of Medicine, has received the Edwin Bierman Award from the American Diabetes Association.
