Nominations of people and projects that demonstrate the university’s sustainability goals in areas such as reducing waste and conserving energy are being accepted through Monday, Jan. 15. Winners of the new Sustainability Leadership Awards will be recognized at the Green Carpet Awards ceremony Feb. 5.

Misty Good, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named to the Scientific Advisory Council of the Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) Society. The nonprofit aims to reduce cases of NEC, a potentially fatal intestinal disease in premature newborns.

Van Essen receives Glass Brain Award

David C. Van Essen, the Alumni Endowed Professor of Neuroscience at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the 2017 Glass Brain Award from the Organization of Human Brain Mapping. The award recognizes lifetime achievement in using neuroimaging to advance understanding of the brain.

Dutcher named cell biology society fellow

Susan Dutcher, a professor of genetics and the interim director of The McDonnell Genome Institute at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named a 2017 fellow of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB).

Fritz, Mueller receive Southeastern Archaeological Conference award

Gayle Fritz, professor of archaeology, and Natalie Mueller, a 2017 doctoral graduate, both of the Department of Anthropology in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, have received the Patty Jo Watson Award for the year’s best article or book chapter on Southeastern archaeology.

G’Sell publishes ‘Life After Rugby’ collection

“Life After Rugby,” the first book-length poetry collection by Eileen G’Sell, was published in December by Gold Wake Press. G’Sell is a lecturer in writing and in the Prison Education Project in Arts & Sciences.
