Joseph Reid, Jr., who had been a master carpenter at Washington University for 42 years, died Saturday, Aug. 20, in Branson, Mo. Funeral services will take place Saturday, Aug. 27.

David Warren, a grant analyst in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at Washington University in St. Louis, died July 17, 2022, at his home in Olivette, Mo. He was 66.

Wayne T. Hanebrink, a former associate dean of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died July 22, 2022, after a fall. He was 83.

Jacob Schaefer III, the Charles Allen Thomas Emeritus Professor of Chemistry in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died June 27, 2022 in St. Louis. Schaefer was one of the world’s experts in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). He was 83 years old.

Gregory I. Goldberg, a former professor of dermatology and longtime researcher at Washington University School of Medicine, died of heart failure May 21, 2022, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was 74.

Justin Hardy, the Washington University in St. Louis basketball forward whose courage inspired players and fans nationwide, died Sunday, May 29, 2022, of stomach cancer. He was 22. 

Kathleen Ann Schneider, a longtime administrative assistant in the Department of English in Arts & Sciences, died March 1, 2022. She was 73.

Michael J. Noetzel, MD, a leading pediatric stroke researcher at Washington University School of Medicine, died of heart failure Feb. 20 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was 70.

Orli Sheffey, a sophomore at Washington University in St. Louis, died by suicide Friday, Feb. 11, 2022. She was 19. A talented student, tenacious journalist and caring friend, Sheffey changed the lives of many members of the Washington University community.

Binyam Nardos, an instructor in the Program in Occupational Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine, died Jan. 29 in St. Louis. He was 39.
