Burton Wheeler, longtime faculty member, former dean, 84

Burton M. Wheeler, PhD, professor emeritus of English and of religious studies, both in Arts & Sciences, and a beloved teacher and former dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Friday, Feb. 17, at his home in Warson Woods, Mo., after a long battle with cancer. He would have turned 85 March 12.

Kunkler, Focal Spot magazine editor, 64

Vicki Kunkler, director of publications and communications at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, of cancer. She was 64.

Middelkamp, professor emeritus of pediatrics, 86

J. Neal Middelkamp, MD, professor emeritus of pediatrics, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at his home in St. Louis following a brief illness. He was 86. “Dr. Middelkamp has been a pillar of the academic pediatric community at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children’s Hospital since his graduation from our School of Medicine in 1948,” says Alan L. Schwartz, PhD, MD, the Harriet B. Spoehrer Professor and head of the Department of Pediatrics.
