Washington University in St. Louis faculty, staff and students are mourning the death of Katrina Banks, administrative coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research and a student in University College in Arts & Sciences. She was 31.

Nicholas Dopuch, a transformational figure in the world of accounting research and professor emeritus at Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. He was 88.

Leonard Jarett, MD, the first director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine in the departments of medicine and pathology at the School of Medicine, died Jan. 13 in Pennsylvania, where he lived. He was 81.

John E. Majors, professor emeritus of biochemistry and molecular biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died Jan. 10, 2018, of a heart attack. He was 69.

Henrietta W. Freedman, a former member of the Washington University in St. Louis Board of Trustees and a founder of the university’s Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), died in her sleep, surrounded by family, at her St. Louis home Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. She was 95.  

Martha A. Bradley, former assistant treasurer at Washington University in St. Louis, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, after a yearlong battle with ovarian cancer. She was 74.

Raymond H. “Ray” Wittcoff, an emeritus trustee of Washington University in St. Louis and a member of the School of Medicine’s National Council since 2005, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at his home in Phoenix. He was 96.

Judy Jasper Leicht, former associate vice chancellor for university communications and a member of the Washington University in St. Louis public affairs staff for 20 years, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital after a lengthy battle with multiple cancers. She was 77.

Stephen L. Johnson, a leader in the field of zebrafish genomics and a professor of genetics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died at his home Dec. 15, 2017, after a long struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. He was 56.

World-renowned author and literary critic William H. Gass, the David May Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Humanities at Washington University in St. Louis, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at his home in University City, Mo. He was 93.
