Joseph Kurz, professor emeritus of chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, died Jan. 2, 2019, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis County. His health had declined over the past several years. Kurz was 85. 

I. Norman Katz, longtime professor of electrical and systems engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, in New Jersey. He was 86.

James (Jim) C. Fetterman, senior lecturer in landscape architecture at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, died at home Jan. 19, 2019. He was 68.

Gerald Medoff, MD, professor emeritus of medicine and beloved former director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the School of Medicine, died peacefully Jan. 14, 2019, in hospice care in Creve Coeur, Mo., following a long bout with Parkinson’s disease. He was 82.

Henry W. Berger, professor emeritus of history in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Dec. 10. He was 81.

Margaret Garb, professor of history in Arts & Sciences and co-director of the Washington University Prison Education Project, died Dec. 15 after a long battle with cancer. She was 56.

Milica Banjanin, professor emerita of Russian in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, died Dec. 9. She was 79. A memorial will take place Feb. 17.

Pioneering hematologist J. Evan Sadler, MD, PhD, a world-renowned expert in the study and treatment of blood clotting disorders and director of the Division of Hematology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at his home in Clayton, Mo., following a brief illness. He was 67.

Brian E. Blank, associate professor of mathematics and statistics in Arts & Sciences, died of heart failure Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was 65.

Marie Prange Oetting, a longtime volunteer with Washington University and former chair of the Alumni Board of Governors, died Oct. 9, 2018, in St. Louis after a brief illness. She was 91.
